Scheduled tasks in ChatGPT on the web, which run in OpenAI's cloud at a chosen time or when a supported Gmail, Slack or GitHub event arrives, and reach outside services through connected apps. This describes a kind of platform, not anyone's account. Checked against OpenAI's documentation on 22 October 2026.

Install a workflow on ChatGPT scheduled tasks in the cloud

Each run is a ChatGPT session in OpenAI's cloud, which carries out the saved prompt and reaches outside services through the apps connected to the person's account. It runs at a chosen time, or on eligible plans when a watched Gmail, Slack or GitHub event arrives.

Run awml fit with the workflow's security view and this description first. This platform keeps no folder between runs, so every context the workflow keeps must live in a connected app or a project, which the workflow should draw as a connector. If the fit reports code steps, ChatGPT will carry them out by following instructions.

What to create

  1. A connection for every app the workflow's connectors name, authorised in ChatGPT before the task is created. For Slack, add @ChatGPT to every channel the task watches. For GitHub, give the app access to the repository.
  2. The instructions, in the task's prompt or an attached skill. Give one section to each step, in the order the drawing lists them, saying what it reads, what it writes and what its operation must not do. A draft step writes a draft and never sends it. An outside action marked Ask ends in a draft or a message asking the person for a yes.
  3. The task. Test the prompt in an ordinary chat first, then ask ChatGPT to create a scheduled task, saying what it does, when it runs, and whether each run starts a new chat or returns to the current one. Use a standalone task when each run should stand alone.

Where secrets go

Connected apps keep their own authorisation. Never put a key or password in a task's prompt, a skill or a chat.

How to schedule the triggers

Give the time and cadence when asking ChatGPT to create the task, such as weekdays at 07:00. For a trigger that is an event, describe the event to watch for: a new Gmail message, optionally by sender or subject; a new Slack message in chosen channels; or pull request activity in a GitHub repository. Event triggers work in ChatGPT on the web and phone, not in the desktop app, and one task cannot mix event triggers with a time schedule. Events that arrive close together may be handled in one run.

How to check it is running

Open Scheduled to see each task's status, its recent runs and any pending events, and choose Run now to process them. Turn on push or email notifications under Settings, then Notifications. Read the first few runs before leaving the task to run, and adjust the prompt or cadence if the results are too broad.
