A Zap in Zapier: a trigger, then steps that run in order, some of which may call a model. This describes a kind of platform, on Zapier's Free plan, not anyone's account. Zapier, which runs the Zap, sees everything it handles, and the fit has no field for that. Checked against Zapier's documentation on 22 October 2026.

Install a workflow on Zapier

The workflow runs as a Zap: a trigger, then steps that run in order. Each code step is an ordinary step, such as Formatter, Filter, Paths or Code by Zapier, each AI step is an AI by Zapier step or a step in the model company's own app, and each connector is an app connection. Zapier keeps no folders: files and notes live in the apps the Zap connects.

Run awml fit with the workflow's security view and this description first. Contexts kept in folders, with at, do not fit here. Zapier runs the Zap and sees what it handles, which the fit does not check, so make sure every scope the Zap touches allows Zapier.

What to create

  1. An app connection for every connector the workflow names, made with the account of the person whose access it is.
  2. A Zap whose trigger is Schedule by Zapier for a time, or an app's trigger for an event.
  3. One step for each step of the workflow, in the order the drawing lists them. An AI step uses AI by Zapier with the model company the fit named for it, or that company's app, such as ChatGPT or Claude, and is given only what that step may read. An outside action marked Ask ends in a draft, or a message asking a person for a yes, never in the action itself.

Where secrets go

Every sign in and key goes in an app connection, which Zapier keeps for the account. Never paste a key into a step's fields or a Code by Zapier step.

How to schedule the triggers

Schedule by Zapier runs the Zap every hour, day, week or month at the time you choose. An app's trigger is usually a polling trigger, which checks for new data every 15 minutes on the Free plan, 2 on Professional and 1 on Team and Enterprise; an instant trigger starts the Zap when the app sends the event. Publish the Zap to turn it on.

How to check it is running

Zap history lists every run, with each step's data and any errors. Test each step in the editor before publishing. If a Zap stops triggering with no errors, turn it off, wait a minute and turn it on again.
